All About

Louisville Girls High School

LGHS Brief History

Origin; preface: Louisville Girls High School, Ijebu-Itele, is owned and managed by the Institute of the Sisters of St. Louis, Nigeria Province - a religious group of women. The Institute was founded in 1842 in France by Abbe Eugene Marie Louis Bautain with a vision of  a world healed, unified and transformed by the saving wisdom of Christianity  and a mission to particularly instruct the young , care for the sick and work for the salvation of souls. The Central House (headquarters) is in Dublin, Ireland. The Provincial House in Nigeria, a place of resident for the Leader and Proprietress of the school and her Team, is in Ibadan, Oyo State. The Sisters of St. Louis got to Nigeria, Kano State to be precise, in the year 1948. They are presently in 9 countries, engaging in various Ministries. In January 1995, the Sisters of St. Louis, Nigeria, became a Province, which meant taking up more responsibilities for their Training, Community-Living and Ministries. With these challenges in mind, the Sisters of St. Louis decided to extend their tradition of Christian Education to this part of Ogun State, Nigeria.

Instauration structure: The opening of Louisville Girls High School, Ijebu-Itele, Ogun-State, on Sunday, 11th January 1998, was as a result of the desires of the Sisters of St. Louis, Nigeria Province, to establish a new school of their own towards renewing the long established tradition of holistic education for the girl-child that St. Louis Schools were known for, the world over, before the takeover of their early schools in the early 1970s by the Government. The whole idea of coming to Ijebu-Itele, a rural community devoid of all forms of distraction which makes an ideal and conducive environment for learning, was initiated by one of the friends of Sisters of St. Louis, Engr. Oresegun, who linked the Sisters with one of his cousins, Mr.Tunde Adeyemi (RIP), who donated the land to the Province. On Saturday, 22nd March 1997, the foundation laying ceremony and fundraising for the new school took place at the site. Sr. Isabel Mann, SSL, the Provincial Superior then and her Team, started the process of making Louisville a reality while her successor, Sr. Patricia. Egbebulem, SSL, commissioned the Team of the Sisters that started the school. Later, on Sunday, 11th January 1998, Louisville Girls High School was born on a 60 acres of land with 24 lovely bright looking girls. The then Bishop of the Diocese, Late Most Rev. Dr.Ayinde Fasina celebrated the Opening Mass in the Convent Chapel.
